National Cheng Kung University to be TUSA’s site for 2012 Summer Program
The TUSA Executive Board has received word of the imminent retirement of Dr. Jackie Chang, Director of the Language Center at the National Pingtung University of Education (NPUE), the most recent training site for TUSA’s Summer Ambassador Program in Taiwan. We therefore have elected to move our 2012 summer program from NPUE to the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, Taiwan.
Three things influenced our decision: (1) NCKU is officially ranked as one of Taiwan’s top two universities. It has a renowned Mandarin Chinese Learning Center with extensive experience running summer programs. (2) NCKU is located in Tainan, an ancient city full of cultural richness and a favorite city for visiting TUSA students in years past. (3) The NCKU’s Mandarin language center has 25 full-time faculty and about 900 foreign students each year. Importantly, Dr. Jackie Chang from NPUE has agreed to serve as a consultant for the 2012 summer program, sharing her five-year TUSA experiences, assisting with curriculum design, and providing the TUSA resources and documents used at NPUE.
Please note that this is a change in TUSA’s announced 2012 summer program!
